The Program of Excellence (POE) initiative was established to promote a unique, cutting-edge, interdisciplinary academic program that will help bring distinction to the College of Arts & Sciences (CAS) and Illinois State University (ISU). Originally, the College planned to designate only one program, but it received such outstanding proposals for the POE, that more were named. "The College should be proud of our Programs of Excellence," said Dean Olson. "All are truly innovative, cutting edge programs that will bring great distinction to ISU."
The Biomathematics: MS Sequence and Cross-Disciplinary Research at the Interface of Biology and Mathematics POE is one of several POE awards funded by CAS. Other awards include Programs of Excellence for development of a post-doctoral fellowship program in neuroscience and behavior, establishment of a Nanotechnology Education and Research program, and development of interdisciplinary graduate programs and conducting research on energy science.
